    2014/2105 MDX Tryout Information

    Greetings everyone!

Welcome to the 2014/2015 Maryland Xtreme (MDX) Season Kickoff announcements!!!   Included in the following email is exciting news about changes we are making to the program that will involve new age grouping, training emphasis on advanced stick, skill and game strategy development, position specific training throughout the year for every position including goalie and fogo, adjustments to our coaching staff and an EXCITING initiative where the boys that earn a position on our 7th and 8th grade teams this year will be sent to VAIL, Colorado to play in the National Tournament representing MDX and DC Metro lacrosse!!!  Every year hereafter, the 7th grade team will be going to VAIL as a right-of-passage in MDX lacrosse and a trip well-earned!!

Like last year, preregistration to tryout will be required and that page which will officially open at the end of the week. Completing this tryout preregistration page is mandatory and is solely for the purpose of letting us know you are interested in learning more about our program and attending one of our tryout dates. This information and our discussions with you are kept confidential and are only used to communicate important information to you.

MDX is a welcoming program specifically designed for players that are committed to a year-round lacrosse experience and who are looking for the best coaching, facilities and competition available in the DC/Baltimore area. The process is simple - register, tryout and have fun. During tryouts, we will objectively assess the boys and provide each one with helpful feedback no matter how the day goes for them. The boys that we believe can play a role in our program will be notified and the ones that don't will be notified and given helpful tips and feedback on how to improve in the areas they need to so we can see them again the next season.

To find out more about the program, please go to the Our Program tab. Specific times for tryouts will be posted permanently on this page.

We will not be collecting any fees for trying out. If you have any questions, email us at info@marylandxtremelacrosse.com

Please read through carefully to ensure that all information is provided accurately.

Maryland Xtreme Lacrosse is excited to announce its 2014-2015 tryout dates, coaching assignments and program schedule!

    Tryout Dates and Times

All tryouts will be held at Freeman Fields at OBGC Park.  NPYLL voted to change the way the teams have been traditionally created to graduation year only.  We have never built teams the way many other clubs had by allowing older boys to play down with younger boys, however, that practice has now been banned by NPYLL.

    Coaching Assignments

All teams will have enhancements to their assistant coaching staffs, plus position specific coaching throughout the year! We are taking coaching and the resources we will provide our boys with to another level!!

    8th grade team: Matthew Prin
    6th grade team: Nic Towson
    7th grade team: Darren Murray
    5th grade team: Geoffrey Prin
    4th grade team: TBD
    3rd grade team: TBD

    New Program Schedule

The fall and winter seasons will emphasize skill development so that MDX players will compete at the highest levels during the spring and summer season! Game only Sunday play in the fall is of little benefit to our boys and most programs are realizing that.

Our sole focus is to get our boys ready to be and play against the best when it matters!! The fall will include scrimmages against the best teams in the DC and Baltimore area and tournament play!! The winter season will include both indoor box games and weekly indoor skill building practices! During the spring season, MDX teams will compete in the NPYLL and hold weekly team practices!

The summer season entails three tournaments in which players and teams will demonstrate the cumulative progress they have made throughout the year!

    Summary of Exciting Changes

Fall Skill Development Program: The fall will emphasize skill building with stick skills, shooting, dodging, face-offs, goalie play, defensive footwork, and defensive technique. MDX will be bringing out contracted specialists to work with players at clinics and practices to hone skill sets. The fall will include scrimmages against the best teams in the DC and Baltimore region and tournament play.

Vail Trip: We are excited to announce that this summer we will be sending both our 8th and 7thgrade MDX teams to Colorado to participate in the Vail Lacrosse tournament! Teams will fundraise throughout the year to work towards their exciting trip!

NEW Turf Fields: MDX will start their spring season playing on two side by side Revolution Turf fields to be installed by Field Turf. Revolution Turf is the best turf available in the country and is what most professional lax and football venues have!!!

NPYLL Reorganization Structure: The NPYLL has restructured its league so that teams are organized by grade level. MDX saw this change coming, which is why all our MDX teams were already organized in this fashion.
